My first front-end development Job in Europe
About half a year ago, I have applied for too many companies to get an internship for the summer of 2022. At the time, I hadn't yet finished my second semester, and I had heard that finding a job in Hungary, specially Debrecen, a small city is quite challenging.
I have applied to all of the companies that I personally knew, or found on LinkedIn or some events from my university. I have also applied to some companies from other websites on social media like glassdoor, but my main focus was on linkedin and events.
There are some events between each semester in our university that they call professionals week. It's only for two days, I have no idea why they call it week. In those two days, companies from all over the country come to our university for hiring students and advertising their own companies.
I have talked to all of them, and they were so kind and friendly, and they always, have free positions for students. Something that makes me different from other applications for those events is I have an online portfolio, and CV. Most of the students just have a CV. Although mine is not that professional but it always makes me distinguish from other students.
My first email to the company that i got internship was on 21st of April, 2022. After some days, they reached back to me and told me they want to have an interview with me. At this step, I was so happy because one of my professors once told me if a company wants to give an interview, you most likely get the job.
I applied for front-end development, and they started asking me some basic theoretical questions.
- Some of the quesions was:
- What is the diffrence between HTML and HTML5?
- What is git?
- What is React?
- What do you know about SEO?
- What is AXIOS?
Fortunately, I had a project for almost all of the questions they asked during the interview, and the questions weren't challenging for me.
After about few weeks, they emailed me back that my application has been accepted, and I could start my job.
I cannot explain the feeling that I had those days. I was so happy that my hard work and passion, were finally seen by other people.
On my first day, they showed me the company and other employees. All of the employees were so nice and friendly to me, and it was a great opportunity for me to learn and develop my skills with the help of the greatest developers with years of experience.
In those first days, they gave me some basic React projects, such as Momentum and sign-in/sign-out pages. After some days, they let me contribute to real projects on which they were working.
At the end of my internship, because I was so motivated and a fast learner, they taught me some basics of the backend in docker. To be honest, moving from frontend to backend was so hard for me. One of the senior backend developers of the company helped me a lot by learning the backend. I mostly learned about some basics in docker.
I will also publish some of the projects I have done during my internships, and I wish it helps you on the sweet learning path. After the end of my internship, I developed and learned too many skills. Besides all of the programming skills, I have also learned too much about teamwork.
In the end, I wish you a lovely time and until next time, please drive carefully and have a nice day ๐.
